Obituary: Anthony Hicks

We are sad to announce that Anthony Hicks died on the morning of 26 May at Meadow House Hospice, Southall, at the age of 66.
Anthony Hicks, who was a long-standing member of the Association, was one of the most distinguished Handel scholars of his generation. He was co-editor (with Stanley Sadie) of the Handel Tercentenary Collection, published by the Association in 1987, and contributed many articles on Handel and his works to The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians and The New Grove Dictionary of Opera. At the time of his death he was working with Donald Burrows on a major AHRC-funded research project on the documentary sources of Handel’s life and career.
