Opportunity: Editor of the RMA Research Chronicle

15 Jun 10

The RMA is moving to appoint a new editor of the RMA Research Chronicle following the retirement from the role, after many years' service, of Jonathan Wainwright. Founded in 1961, the RMA Research Chronicle is unique among English-language journals in its emphasis on the raw materials of musicology: lists, indexes, catalogues, inventories, etc. It is an international refereed journal and publishes high-quality articles in all areas of musicology.

The editor of the RMA Research Chronicle is ex officio a member of the Publications Committee of the RMA Council and is entitled to attend Council meetings. The editor is expected to be a member of the RMA during their tenure (though not necessarily at the time of application). Council is currently exploring the possibility of a closer relationship between the RMA Research Chronicle and Routledge (publishers of the Journal of the RMA), making this an exciting time for the periodical, in which a new editor can make their mark.

The person specification for the editor of RMA Research Chronicle is as follows: good honours or higher degree; a record of publications, especially in archival research; experience of editing; a knowledge of historical musicology; a knowledge of the wider academic community. A detailed job specification is available on request from the Executive Officer, Jeffrey Dean jeffrey.dean@stingrayoffice.com, who welcomes expressions of interest. Formal applications, including a letter explaining the applicant's suitability for the role, a curriculum vitae, and the names and contact details of two referees, may be made by 31 August 2010, either by post or by e-mail (attachments in .doc or .pdf format), to the Executive Officer (contact details below). Interviews will be held in London on 14 September 2010.
