RMA Research Students' Conference 2011
The conference will take place at the University of Manchester (Martin Harris Centre) from 13-15 January 2011. It will include a lunchtime concert of postgraduate student compositions by Trio Atem (Call for works below), and workshops on career-related issues.
The keynote speaker will be Professor Martin Stokes (Oxford University).
Call for Papers
Abstracts for papers on any music research related topics are welcome: papers will be limited to 20 minutes followed by discussion and questions. Abstracts (200 words) will be accepted until 15 October, 2010. Please email abstracts or any additional enquiries to Matthew Pilcher (matthew.pilcher@postgrad.manchester.ac.uk).
Call for Works
The professional ensemble Trio Atem (www.myspace.com/trioatem) was founded by three Manchester graduates in order to perform Lachenmann’s temA. Trio Atem’s repertoire includes many commissions & existing works exploring the full sonic gamut available to the instrumentation of flute, voice and cello. The trio is well versed in extended techniques & is at home working with electronics & graphic scores, although they also happily embrace conventional notation & sonic forms.

- Duration: c.10mins
- Instrumentation: Flute (including picc or bass but NOT alto), Voice (mezzo sop: range from d below middle c up to first ledger line b), Cello
- Format: all formats are acceptable, including graphic or text based scores, and works including live or fixed electronics (see below)
- Other: found sounds or basic percussion may also be included for the trio to play, but must be commonly available materials.
- Electronics: whilst works including electronics will be given equal consideration, composers should bear in mind limited rehearsal & workshop time, and design patches, interaction, etc. to suit this. Submissions with electronics MUST included a finished tape part or Max/MSP-PD-Supercollider patch.
- 8-channels of audio. 8 loudspeakers/channels surrounding the audience as follows:
