Opportunity: Ordinary Members of RMA Council

19 Jul 10 to 7 Sep 10

Nominations for candidacy as Ordinary Members of Council are now open. Any member may nominate any other member for this position; there will be three positions contested in this autumn's election. Council hopes there will be approximately twice as many candidates as open positions in any election.

Nominations must be made in writing and communicated to the Chair of Search Committee, Hilary Bracefield <HM.Bracefield@btinternet.com>, by either e-mail or post (see the on-line Directory, and be sure to click on "More details"!). Each nomination must be made by one member of the RMA, seconded by another member, and confirmed by the candidate themself (who must be a member in good standing, with their subscription for July-December 2010 paid up no later than September 2010). Self-nomination is not accepted. Nominations must be received by 7 September 2010.

Ordinary Members of Council are expected to take an active part in the governance of the RMA. Council meets three times annually: normally on Saturday during the Research Students' Conference in late December or early January, on Tuesday of the second week of May, and on Tuesday of the third week of September (the latter two meetings are normally in London, the first wherever the RSC is held). They are also expected to attend the Annual General Meeting in mid November. In addition, Ordinary Members of Council are expected to serve on one or more committees. Proceedings Committee meets three times a year (mid December, mid April, and July at the Annual Conference), Publications Committee twice (on the mornings before the Council meetings in December/January and May), Finance and Membership Committee once (on the morning before the April meeting of Proceedings Committee); Awards Committee and Search Committee do most of their work without face-to-face meetings.

For further information, follow the links under "Governance" at the left side of http://www.rma.ac.uk/rma/.

Ordinary Members of Council are legally Directors of the Association as a company limited by guarantee, and its Trustees as a charity.
