Recipients in 2013

Amanda Babington (University of Manchester), the Fellowes Student Research Grant, to support attendance at and the delivery of a paper to the 2013 Handel Conference hosted at Princeton University by the American Handel Society.

Joanna Clements (University of Glasgow), the Goldsborough Student Research Grant, to support attendance at and the delivery of a paper to the 2013 conference of the International Adam Smith Society in Paris.

Jeremy Coleman (King’s College, London), the Frank Howes Student Research Grant, to support attendance at and the delivery of a paper to a conference entitled ‘Translating Wagner’ at Columbia University, New York, 2013, and additional research in the New York Public Library.

Charles Gower-Smith (University of Leeds), the Oldman Student Research Grant, to support research on Maurice Greene in Oxford and London.

Jennifer Daniel (University of Leeds): the Goldsborough Student Research Grant, for attendance at the RMA annual conference in Cardiff (2012) to deliver a paper entitled ‘A Ring for its time and place: an ethnography of the defiance of the composer’s vision by the mutual consent of company and audience’.

Michael Gale (University of Southampton): the Frank Howes Student Research Grant, for attendance and the presentation of a paper at the AMS plenary conference in St Louis (2012).

Tomas McAuley (King’s College London), the Oldman Student Research Grant, for attendance and the presentation of a paper at the 2012 Congress of the IMS in Rome.

Sakurako Mishiro (University of Manchester): a Thurston Dart Student Research Grant, for attendance and the presentation of a paper at the Biennial Baroque Conference at the University of Southampton (2012).

Alistair Zaldua (Goldsmiths College): a Thurston Dart Student Research Grant, for attendance and the presentation of a paper and composition at the conference with associated performances, ‘Nancarrow in the 21st Century’ held at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, and the Southbank.

James Burke (University of Leeds): the Goldsborough Student Research Grant, for a research trip to Oxford and purchase of research materials (Dow part-books).

Adam Ferguson (University of Leeds): the Frank Howes Student Research Grant, for attendance and giving paper at the 2011 Music Theory Conference at the University of Arts in Belgrade (May 13–15).

Recipients in 2010

Simon Desbruslais (University of Oxford): the Fellowes Student Research Grant, to obtain copies of unpublished materials in the Paul Hindemith Collection at Yale University Library.

Kate Guthrie (University of Cambridge): the Goldsborough Student Research Grant, for a research visit to study autograph manuscripts of 20 works by Arthur Willner in the Vienna Library and the Universal Edition Archive.

Tomáš Kráčmar (University of Manchester): the Frank Howes Student Research Grant, for a research visit to Copenhagen to study unpublished works of Carl Nielsen in autograph manuscripts.

Tal-Chen Rabinowitch (University of Cambridge): a Thurston Dart Student Research Grant, towards attending and giving paper at the ‘Nature vs. Culture’ conference on Interdisciplinary Musicology to be held at the University of Sheffield, July 2010.

Katherine Williams (University of Nottingham): the Oldman Student Research Grant, for  attending and giving paper at the annual Leeds International Jazz Conference.

In 2010, four additional grants were awarded from funds made available following the RMA/SMI joint annual conference in the summer of 2009. These were awarded to:

Estelle Murphy (University of Cork): an RMA/SMI research grant for attending and giving a paper at the first International conference on Irish music, to be held at the University of Durham, July 2010.

Ian Sapiro (University of Leeds): an RMA/SMI research grant for attending and giving a paper at the Music and Moving Image V conference, to be held in New York, May 2010.

David Ireland (University of Leeds): an RMA/SMI research grant for attending and giving a paper at the Music and Moving Image V conference, to be held in New York, May 2010.

Rebecca Eumorfopoulos (Royal Holloway, University of London): an RMA/SMI research grant for fieldwork trips to study female popular musicians in the UK.

Christine Andrews (University of Oxford): the Fellowes Student Research Grant, for attending and giving a paper at the RMA/SMI Annual Conference in Dublin.

Elizabeth Dyer (University of York): the Goldsborough Student Research Grant, for attending and giving a paper at Harvard-Lyrica Dialogues, Cambridge Massachusetts.

Laura Hamer (Cardiff University): the Frank Howes Student Research Grant, for attending and giving a paper at the RMA/SMI Annual Conference in Dublin.

Rachel Milestone: a Thurston Dart Student Research Grant, for attending and giving a paper at the Oxford Organ Conference.

Diane Tisdall (King’s College London): the Oldman Student Research Grant, for attending and giving a paper at Nicolò Paganini Diabolus in Musica.

Recipients in 2008

George Burrows (Newcastle University): the Fellowes Student Research Grant, for a research trip to New York and giving a conference paper.

Rosemary Golding (Royal Holloway): the Goldsborough Student Research Grant, for attending and giving a paper at the RMA Annual conference.

George Kennaway (University of Leeds): the Frank Howes Student Research Grant, for attending and giving a paper at the Biennial International conference on Nineteenth-Century Music.

Holger Stüwe (University of Liverpool): the Oldman Student Research Grant, for attending and giving a paper at the RMA Annual conference.

Justin Williams (University of Nottingham): a Thurston Dart Student Research Grant, for attending and giving a paper at a conference hosted by the University of Belgrade.
