Formed in 2009, the Music and Visual Arts group provides a forum for research and debate on the inter-relations between the music and visual arts of any period. We currently support one event per year, which attracts an international body of participants largely from the disciplines of musicology, art history and cultural studies. Generally of seminar format, these events have given the opportunity for postgraduate researchers to benefit from extensive discussion not only with other colleagues, but with eminent scholars in the field - an opportunity that is often less possible in a larger conference setting.
2012 sees a panel at the Association of Art Historians Annual Conference at the Open University, 'Permeable Boundaries: Music and the Visual Arts', convened by two Committee Members of the Music and Visual Arts Group, Drs Diane Silverthorne and Tim Shephard. Further event tbc.
