Barbara Kelly (President-Elect) and Deborah Mawer were invited, on behalf of the RMA, as panellists to speak at a music education event, held at City University on 15 November 2019. They presented a Powerpoint and participated in a lively public debate on current issues, across primary through to tertiary education: Music in the Curriculum: Tensions, Choices and Opportunities. Panellists also included Gillian Moore from the Southbank Centre. The evening was convened by Ian Pace and chaired by Steven Berryman (RMA members). This filmed event was very well attended by at least 80 people, with many representatives from schools with large music departments, comprising staff and sixth-formers, together with university staff, students, music organisations and music press. The plan is to build on the momentum generated by this venture with an RMA-badged successor event in late spring 2020.
